IIT Tirupati is a third generation IIT that started functioning from 2015 under the mentorship of IIT Madras. With generous support from the Central and State governments and a fast growth trajectory, IIT Tirupati is establishing itself within the knowledge ecosystem of the state. The Institute is strategically located close to the city of Chennai - the Automotive hub of India, and Bengaluru - dubbed as the Silicon Valley of India. It is also well connected to most Indian cities by rail, road and air, with its own international airport. Sri City, which is an integratedbusiness city with 175 companies from 27 countries and investments close to 4 billion USD, and the Satish Dhawan Space Center are also located within 100 km to the campus, giving IIT Tirupati an immense advantage.

To establish IIT Tirupati as an Institute of national eminence in academics and research, the Government of India has approved a generous funding of INR 31 Billion. The Institute recently finalised the master plan for setting up a sprawling 548 Acres Campus which will cater to about 12,000 students. During the first phase, some essential buildings and facilities to accommodate 2,500 students and 250 faculty members across
11 departments is expected to be completed by 2024. The Institute currently has 70 full time faculty members who have joined the Institute having completed their doctoral programs and postdoctoral training from top universities across the world.
Academic Programs
The B.Tech program started in 2015 with 30 students each in four engineering disciplines namely Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical. In 2018, the admission in B.Tech program has been increased to 180 students with the addition of Chemical Engineering program. The Institute has also started M.Tech programs from 2018. To focus on research, IIT Tirupati has started admitting students to its MS (Research) and Ph.D programs (9 areas), offering students an opportunity to work on a range of cutting edge research topics.
